Tottenham Hotspur remained unbeaten and top of the Premier League table thanks to a 2-1 win away at Crystal Palace on Friday night.

Despite dominating possession, Spurs struggled to create clear-cut chances in the first half, but they broke the deadlock in fortuitous fashion early in the second half when James Maddison’s cross was diverted into his own net by Joel Ward.

Heung-min Son doubled Tottenham’s lead just after the hour mark, finishing off a lovely move involving Maddison and substitute Brennan Johnson.

Crystal Palace gave themselves a glimmer of hope deep into stoppage time when Jordan Ayew struck a brilliant volley into the far corner, but it was too little too late for the hosts.

The result means Spurs now have eight wins and 26 points from 10 games played, with a five-point cushion over second-placed Manchester City.
